Tivat - a town with a bit nervous dog

Tivat Impression

Tivat - "Where is it?" people asked. Tivat is a little town in Montenegro. The Montenegrin seashore is divided into 4 parts - from the south it is Ulcinj riviera, then Bar riviera, Budva and finally the Tivat riviera. Tivat is located in a bay called Boka Kotorska.Boka was once the seat of the Austro-Hungarian fleet. This bay is dominated by 4 cities - the largest Kotor, Tivat, Risan and Herceg Novi.

This destination was my first contact with the Adriatic and the Balkans at all. Why I chose this place I do not know, but I do not regret. This town also has its own airport, which is full of life during the summer. We have traveled here for more than 20 hours. The advantage was that we traveled at night. The Adriatic has incredible magic at night. It mirrors the moon as if it were born directly from it. Just as I felt we were going to a place that didn't really exist and the bus was just driving us nonsensically somewhere, a billboard emerged on the right side of the road “Dobrodošli u pozitivnu Crnu Goru"1.

Our tourist bus unloaded us at 5 am in front of the hotel informing us that check in is at 2 p.m. So we were lying on the beach covered in sleeping bags like homeless for a while. The city around us was just waking up. The housekeepers who cleaned at the beach bars certainly thought we were either "ludi turisti" or "bezkućnici2". We were both.

The hotel was located on šetalište Iva Vizina, a small promenade on the beach. It was amazing that you basically "ste pali u more" directly from the hotel door.3I appreciated this especially after the bad experience from Italy, where we had to look for access to the sea. So I sat there at 6 am on the beach stroking the waters of the Adriatic and disbelieving to my eyes that nature had created such a thing and that it was about 5 cm from me. Around me, spasilac4who at his dizzying pace decayed ležaljke5. He ended his work around lunch and the rest of the day looked at the latest iPhone.

Around 9 after a short walk around the area and finding out that the roses that we have in our micro pots here have the size of a tree, we decided to nešto naručiti u lokalnom kafiću6. My every effort to tell even one sentence in Croatian was ruined by konobarica7which immediately launched flawless English. So we had a short conversation in English.

About 12 a.m. we didn't care about anything. The sun was roasting, we were sweating, we couldn't get into the water, because our swimmsuite was somewhere in the luggage, so we sat together with the other participants on the hotel terrace waiting. But waiting in such a place is very pleasant. The atmosphere here is as peaceful as nowhere else. You feel that nothing unexpected can happen here.

So at 2 they finally accommodated us. We really liked the room, there is nothing to reproach her. The window was the most fascinating. We did not see the beautiful Adriatic Sea. But there was something amazing about it. In the middle stood a few trees with round orange fruit. Whether they were oranges or mandarins I do not know, because elsewhere I have not seen such a tree in the city. With the eyes of a child discovering the world, we looked at those orange balls for a moment nowhere. (kiwi that hung over our heads is in another article).

The advantage of the Montenegrin hotel beaches is that there is no crowd. But there are no stalls, attractions, changing rooms, etc. On the other hand, you do not need it, because the hotel is really 5 meters away and there is no obstacle that you only wear the swimsuit. So here you have everything you need.

Spasilac will not give you some wonderful information, but the reception really excelled in good English and was very welcoming even to misunderstood Slovak tourists. Relying on your understanding of something like 'Dis bio u śridu?'8 is not the best choice. However, it is not Croatia.

Montenegro is another country "where we just have to eat".Personally, I prefer a healthier kitchen, ie their kulen, kobasica9 i ne znam što još10 are not my favourite, but fruits, vegetables and seafood I could eat every day there. That's our Bio as opposed to their ordinary tomato which is 10 times more Bio and they don't even know about it.

The whole town is very quiet, but not dead. It is ideal for families with children. He lives his life, there are a few tourist attractions, historical monuments, many restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, stalls with icecream. At one end of the city there is the lucrative part Porto Montenegrowhere villas are being built, there is a yacht harbor, and apparently used to anchor the Hollywood stars in the summer (I have not seen DiCaprio). However, even this part does not give the impression of bloating, but is very pleasant and welcoming.

The advantage of the whole city is that it is not crowded with tourists, but tourists are here present. There's something to see. The beaches are beautiful, safe with gradual entry into the sea. The local marina has many posters for excursions. You won't be bored.Be sure to go at least to an islet, which is entirely made of shells and stands on it a beautiful church Gospa od Škrpjela. At this point you will be enchanted by the beauty and power of nature - the turquoise Adriatic in combination with the rugged Balkans.

They will be happy to advise you even if you visit turistički centar. Montenegro's advantage comparing it with Croatia is the currency. You do not have to count for half a day how much kuna is one euro and whether the young man in mjenjačnica you exchanged did not jug you. Here you pay in euros. But it is cheaper here than in Croatia and the services are at the same level. There are not many hotels, but there is a wide range of private accommodation. Montenegrins remodel their houses and expand to show their small country to tourists. They will be willing to accommodate you, even if you have not agreed on anything in advance, and I think they will make every effort to make you feel good.

It is a very pleasant, peaceful, non-conflicting, cordial and kind nation. Among their countrymen from the former Yugoslavia, they have the reputation of a lazy nation, which I personally disagree with. Like most poor nations from this part of the world, they are trying to show their country in the best possible light.

Nowhere in the Balkans happened to me that a stranger greets me. Here everyone greets everyone. Everyone talks to everyone on the beach. There are no language barriers. Throughout the day in the city you meet young people (I suppose they are the students that make a lot of money) who sweep, collect garbage and take care of cleanliness. Vatrogasci11 water flowers every morning. Someone might have criticized Tivat, but I think it would be wrong. It really is a city in which there is nothing wrong and there is nothing to blame. Montenegro, as the billboard says, is really only positive and it is time for a Slovak tourist to dare to go a bit south as well, as not only in Croatia there is a Slovak sea .... so pack the suitcase and Hajde to Crna Gora.12!
